American History and ours!

Jefferson's Monticello - VA

As we’ve explored some of the country’s beautiful and historic sites we’ve reconnected with people from our own past. During this first week we have been so lucky – connecting with friends and family in New York, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.

Ray’s brother Paul met us for lunch outside Winston Salem. Old neighbors, Kerry & Alan Hogan-Hamer hosted us for a wonderful night at Charlotte’s hot spots and their lovely, serene home.  Cathy and Darryl Solomonson showed us a bit of downtown at an Irish Pub that was brought over from Dublin and we spent a rollicking evening playing with our great-nephews at the Cobles.

Charlotte definitely has it goin on! The art and architecture are gorgeous.

Stylish people on the move – to business meetings, the theatres or shopping – filled the central core on a sunny afternoon. We went to the impressive Bechtler Museum of Modern Art ( http://www.bechtler.org)  and the Mint.  It was great to visit such a thriving American city. Ray took some cool photos of the buildings.

The cold continues but we’re heading thru South Carolina tonight towards Georgia.
