Southern Roadways

We’ve been skirting the tornado watches as we move northeast –  still exploring along the way.   – Nacogdoches – oldest town in Texas – Java Joe’s for breakfast;  Northeastern Texas and Northern Louisiana are lovely with sprawling ranches and rolling hills.

Lunch at Natchitoches, Louisiana – oldest settlement from the Louisiana Purchase  French fort and lovely town.

I’m still thrilled with every encounter of the Mighty Mississippi. Recent storms and flooding have filled the estuaries. In late afternoon we crossed  into  Vicksburg and spent the night at Casino Jack’s looking westward at the Mississippi rolling by.

This morning, from the balcony I can see big barges “rollin’ on the river” and notice how high the water has risen up the trunks of the trees on the shore below me.
