A UNESCO World Heritage site, Halong Bay is mesmerizing. We traveled on a bus to our boat and spent two days cruising around this spectacular place. We had seen pictures but were still not prepared. Slowly making our way among the limestone giants seemed strange and beautiful – like drifting beside floating mountains. The colors and the layers of peaks on the horizon reminded us of the Adirondacks. Except each of these was standing in the Bay. We sailed for miles around this mysterious land-waterscape. We climbed waaaaay up to a cave that was a whole other world. People in Halong Bay live on floating villages and on the many tourist boats sailing the waters. I wish I could describe it. I wish the photos did it justice but it was too big, too unusual to really capture. I hope you get a chance to go there.
