South Beach to Southernmost

Doug took us into Biscayne Bay to watch Liam’s sailing team racing Opti’s in the beautiful waters off Miami. From the jazzy vibe of Miami we went south, and south, slowing down the lifestyle to the very tip of Florida landing at our favorite; Southernmost Beach. In Key West we wandered Duval Street, watched the sunsets and enjoyed the people watching. At the Coffee Plantation we compared notes with Theo who told us about the 8 month trek across America that he and his wife did in a van just like ours.

We have learned to appreciate the various Keys in between…. a fabulous meal at City Hall Cafe in Tavenier where John Bedell, a good friend of the Costello’s, welcomes us every year. Easter breakfast with the Reeces, stone crab claws with Cathy on Marathon, (I’d never have to cook in the Keys!), a beach day at Bahia Honda State Park, and fabulous water views on Overseas Highway all along the way. We know the winter has been so tough in the north and even in the Keys people were complaining but we were lucky to find several hot, sunny days to visit our favorite haunts.
